The chairperson of Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Hassana Arkila, yesterday confirmed the death of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) councilor for Gizaki/Badagari Ward, Musa Daniel, who he said was beaten to death by irate youths while on electoral duty.
“I want to confirm the death of a PDP councilor who was beaten to death by irate youths. l am assuring the people of the state that the full wrath of law will catch up with the attackers,” she said.
However, Arkila appealed to the perpetrators of the act to sheath their sword and embrace peace. “The death of the councilor is a signal that the APC is afraid of losing the electoral process. I ask for calm among PDP supporters.”
Meanwhile, election in Bauchi State was marred by the malfunctioning of card readers. The card reader at Baba Sidi Primary School, Bauchi rejected the thumbprint of Governor Mallam Isa Yuguda.
“So far, so bad, the card has rejected my thumb print again. My thumb print was rejected during presidential and National Assembly elections; the same thing happened today again,” said Yuguda.
The governor commended voters for their orderly conduct at polling units. However, he lamented the low turnout which was witnessed throughout the country.
“Some of the electorates believed in the Presidential election so may be that was the reason for the low turn out but I want to urge them to come out and exercise their franchise,” Yuguda said.
