Nigerian Police Kill Seven Igbos And Seriously Injure 30 During Pro-Biafra Rally
No less than seven people were killed, and about 30 more injured, most of them critically, when the Nigerian police and military reportedly opened fire dispersing a crowd of the pro-Biafra marchers at Onitsha in Anambra state on Sunday.
What started as a peaceful meeting…
According to some reports from Anambra state, three people were fatally shot dead on the spot and 30 others got bullet wounds when the police and Nigerian navy opened fire to disperse the crowd of the pro-Biafra marchers in Onitsha on Sunday ended with a bloodbath.
Military and policemen opened fire dispersing the crowd.“How come our security men find it so easy to kill peaceful IPOB members but won’t lift a finger against the deadly Boko Haram? These brothers were peaceful in their engagement, they weren’t radical or causing any harm according to eye witnesses, they weren’t armed, so why shoot at them?” was said in the IPOB statement.
The agitation for the actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra has been on for some time now. The Republic of Biafra came about when a secessionist state situated in south-eastern of Nigeria tried to break away from Nigeria but were stopped. Biafra was inhabited mostly by the Igbo people and was in existence from 30th May 1967 to 15th January 1970.
The Movement for the Actualization of State of Biafra (MASSOB) is yet to give up the fight to secede from Nigeria. The group have even established a radio station, called Radio Biafra somewhere in Europe.

Nigerian Girl Who Became Sex Slave In Russia Tells Her Story (+Photo)
A Nigerian girl decided to go to Russia to earn money for her education but was tricked into prostitution by a local gang. Blessing, 24, is another girl who spent two years in Russian city Voronezh cooking, babysitting and serving clients for money.
Last week, Naij published a story of Nigerian girl who went to Russia to study Economics at a local university but also had to become a prostitute. “‘Who told you that there is a good job for you in Russia? Prostitution is the only job you can do here,’ it was the first thing I was told by my future female pimp when I arrived in Russia,” Blessing said. According to Blessing, she studied Fashion Design in Nigeria, however, she didn’t have money to continue her studies. When one of her friends suggested to go to Russia and earn some money, Blessing agreed. “My Nigerian friend disappeared when we arrived in Russia. Later, I found out that she died. My pimp said I had to work as a prostitute to return $45,000 that they allegedly spent on my air tickets and other stuff. “When I said “No”, they started to beat me up.
Two years have passed but I still have visible scars. “If I only knew earlier that there were people who can help me, I would have returned in Nigeria long ago. I didn’t know there was a way out. My parents and brothers know what happened to me. They are waiting for my return,” Blessing said. When girls refuse to serve clients, the pimp beats them up till they obey the orders. If they still refuse to obey, the pimp kicks them out without passports and money to live. As girls are far away from their homes and families without any support, they usually give up all attempts to run away.
“I was told that if I refused to work as other girls, they would have killed me. But I replied that only God can kill me,” Blessing concluded. According to a Russian photographer, Tatiana Egorova, who met Blessing and other rescued girls several days before their departure to Nigeria, Blessing is already at home with her family. Though the photographer doesn’t know how the 24-year-old girl is coping with her life now. In Nigeria, the main reasons of human trafficking – mostly selling women and children for commercial sexual exploitation – are poverty, social inequality and unemployment. Almost all international trade in Nigeria is concentrated in Benin City, the capital of Edo state. Lots of Nigerian families send their daughters in Europe to escape poverty.

Man imprisoned for 5 years for setting pregnant girlfriend on fire
On Monday, a 37-year-old bar operator who was identified as Lucky Esonahae was arraigned on one count bordering on causing bodily harm by setting his pregnant lover on fire.
The prosecuting officer, Sergeant Ganiyu Yahya, told the court that the incident took place at Uwelu Quartres in Benin, and was reported by the victim, Stella Isaac, on July 6, the same day it occurred.
Yahya said Esonahae poured kerosene on Stella, who was said to be 7 months pregnant, lit a match and set her on fire.
He said that the victim was later rescued by one of her sons and her neighbours, who forced the door of her room open, as she had been locked in.
He said the victim, who was later rushed to the Central Hospital, where she received treatment sustained burns on her hands and forehead.
The police prosecutor also told the court that Esonahae had earlier accused the pregnant woman of infidelity for allegedly returning at about 6pm from her ante-natal care and had threatened to kill her, before she ran to her sister’s residence.
The charge read:
“That you, Lucky Esonahae, on July 6, 2015, at Uwelu Quartres, Benin, in the Egor Magisterial District, did cause grievous harm to one Stella Isaac, by setting her on fire with kerosene, which cause her bodily harm and, thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 355(B) of the Criminal Code Cap 48, Vol. II, Law of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, as applicable to Edo State.”
The accused pleaded guilty to the offence and begged for leniency.
But the presiding magistrate, Igho Braimoh, said the court would not be lenient, adding, “for a 37-year-old man to set a lover on fire leaves much to be desired.”
She, therefore, sentenced him to 5 years in prison with hard labour.
