Barcelona 3-0 Bayern: Messi Brace Sets Barca on the Road to Berlin

Lionel Messi’s moment of brilliance propelled Barcelona to a 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in a Uefa Champions League last-4 tie on Wednesday.

There’s no stopping the Argentine superstar; Pep Guardiola shared the same thought in his pre-game conference on Tuesday and the closing quarter of what was a high-octane spectacle proved the former Barca manager right, as his former protégé came up with the joker on his return to the ground where he won 14 titles as manager.

Bayern have an uphill task on their hands, heading into next week’s return leg in Munich trailing by 3 goals and without hopes of having their top marksmen back. No point making a case for absentees on the night considering the fact that the Bavarians have coped all season with injury problems.

However, the absence of the likes of David Alaba (knee), Arjen Robben (calf), Franck Ribéry (ankle), as well as Sebastian Rode (muscular problems) and Holger Badstuber (thigh) made little room for the possession-drunk and offensive German game, as were the case three years back when the Allianz Arena outfit were rarely troubled On their way to a 7-0 aggregate win over Barca in the semi-final stage of the Champions League.

Daniel Sturridge Has Hip Surgery in the United States

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has had a surgery on a hip problem in the United States.

Coach Brendan Rodgers had said the England international was not likely to feature for the club for the rest of the season and, after undergoing surgery in New York on Tuesday; Sturridge will now begin a rehabilitation programme as he begins another journey on the now too familiar road to recovery.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City striker has traveled to the States twice this season in an attempt to find a lasting solution to the injury crises which has rocked his campaign, with only 18 club appearances under his belt and just 5 goals to his credit.

“Just want to let the world know I’ve had a successful operation on my hip today and I want to thank God for allowing that to be possible,” Sturridge wrote on Instagram. “Onwards and upwards from here. Thanks for the support.”

Champions League: Juventus 2-1 Real Madrid

Juventus take a narrow first-leg lead over Uefa Champions League holders Real Madrid into next week’s reverse after a slim 2-1 win in Turin on Tuesday night.

Carlos Tevez’s 50th goal for Juventus scored from the penalty spot made the difference, but it is far from over for the two-time champions with a return leg at the Estadio Santiago Bernebeu on the card.

Cristiano Ronaldo headed the Los Merengues level from a James Rodriguez cross after Alvaro Morata had poked home from close range against his former club.

Juve, playing in their first semi-final since 2003, got off to a dream start and were on the front foot before the opening ten minutes on the back of a Stefao Sturaro shot straight at Iker Casillas and Morata’s beautiful lob which was too slow to beat the out-of-position veteran shot-stopper.

Claudio Marchisio laid the ball for Tevez down the right side of the box and the Argentinean’s low shot was only parried back into play by Casillas, allowing Morata to score from close range.

Mayweather Stays Undefeated after Mega-Fight Win By UD

Floyd Mayweather defeated Manny Pacquaio by Unanimous (points) Decision after 12 rounds of hotly contested bout at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday.

All three judges recorded a 118-110 116-112 116-112 victory for the American, who is now unbeaten in 48 bouts and claims the unified welterweight crown.

Mayweather said: “I knew he was going to push me. He had moments in the fight but I kept him on the outside, I was a smart fighter I out-boxed him. We did what we had to do tonight, I’m truly blessed.

Floyd Mayweather Lands a Left Hook on Manny Pacquaio During Their Super- Fight in LA.“I calculate the fighter. He’s a tough competitor. My dad wanted me to do more but I had to take my time and watch Manny very close.”

Mayweather, 38, retains his WBA and WBC titles and takes over the WBO title from Pacquiao.

With a lot at stake for both fighters and spectators, who had had their monies on the line, at a 16,000 sell-out MGM Grand, it was Mayweather who got the better of Pacquaio in early rounds.
