PDP’s Fall Was Caused By Patience Jonathan, Fani-Kayode And Fayose — Tsav

As President Goodluck Jonathan intervened in the open war between his aides and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a retired Police Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav has said that the situation the PDP has found itself was caused by Jonathan’s wife and some aides who took over the party and were speaking for it everywhere.

“When the PDP was formed with pomp and pageantry some years back, its members boasted that it was the largest party in Africa. Some at a point boasted that it would rule for 60 years and beyond. Things went right, and everything flourished in the party. Everybody went for the umbrella but today, the situation has changed and the umbrella is leaking profusely not only from torrential rain but from the rays of the tropical sun.

“Most of the founding fathers have left the party in anger ranging from lack of internal democracy to encouraging illegality. The situation was worsened by the departure of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who is an institution himself.

There Is Provision For Fuel Subsidy In 2015 Budget – Okonjo-Iweala

The Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, yesterday, said the government has not removed fuel subsidy from the 2015 budget, as she confirmed that N145.2 billion provision was made for it.

“I want to clarify that there has been some misinformation that has gone around in the media about the fact that the National Assembly passed the 2015 budget without provision for fuel subsidy. It is not true,” she told newsmen in Abuja.

“It is important that you note that the National Assembly approved provisions of N100 billion for PMS (Petroleum Motor Spirit, otherwise called petrol) and N45.2 billion for kerosene subsidy. So, it is not true that they passed the budget without provision for subsidy,” she added.

The minister emphasized that managing the economy since the crash in oil prices had been very tough for her team which had to adopt various strategies to keep the economy running.

Buhari meets with a journalist he jailed when he was a military leader

President-elect Gen Buhari met with Mr Tunde Thompson, one of the journalists he jailed for disobeying Decree 4 during his administration in 1984. Decree 4 was enacted by Gen Buhari to checkmate the authenticity of press reports, a policy many believed was against the freedom of speech. Both men met at a media parley the president elect had with his media campaign team in Abuja yesterday May 5th. Mr Thompson now works with Gen Buhari's media team. Gen Buhari told him that jailing him, at that time was one of the challenges of his administration then. He appreciated his media team for carrying out a decent campaign for him during the election

"I want to commend you especially for two things. First, is the decent media campaign you conducted despite the PDP’s dirty tactics, you stayed focused on issues and avoided the temptation to sling mud. I thank you for your uncommon motivation to do the work. Despite the lean budget on which we ran our campaign, you did not allow the lack of adequate remuneration to stall the work at any point in time. You continued to give your best"he said.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City striker has traveled to the States twice this season in an attempt to find a lasting solution to the injury crises which has rocked his campaign, with only 18 club appearances under his belt and just 5 goals to his credit.

“Just want to let the world know I’ve had a successful operation on my hip today and I want to thank God for allowing that to be possible,” Sturridge wrote on Instagram. “Onwards and upwards from here. Thanks for the support.”

Champions League: Juventus 2-1 Real Madrid

Juventus take a narrow first-leg lead over Uefa Champions League holders Real Madrid into next week’s reverse after a slim 2-1 win in Turin on Tuesday night.

Carlos Tevez’s 50th goal for Juventus scored from the penalty spot made the difference, but it is far from over for the two-time champions with a return leg at the Estadio Santiago Bernebeu on the card.

Cristiano Ronaldo headed the Los Merengues level from a James Rodriguez cross after Alvaro Morata had poked home from close range against his former club.

Juve, playing in their first semi-final since 2003, got off to a dream start and were on the front foot before the opening ten minutes on the back of a Stefao Sturaro shot straight at Iker Casillas and Morata’s beautiful lob which was too slow to beat the out-of-position veteran shot-stopper.

Claudio Marchisio laid the ball for Tevez down the right side of the box and the Argentinean’s low shot was only parried back into play by Casillas, allowing Morata to score from close range.
