Three Chinese workers have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Kogi State, central Nigeria, the latest of what is fast becoming a usual occurrence in the region, police said Saturday.
“Three Chinese nationals were abducted by some unknown gunmen within the early hours of Friday,” a senior police officer told AFP, asking to remain anonymous.
According to him, the gunmen stormed a quarry outside Lokoja, the capital of Kogi state, and engaged the policemen on guard in a shootout.
“One policeman was killed while another sustained gunshot wounds,” he said.
The gunmen carried out the kidnapping successfully and escaped with their hostages on foot through the bush. However, he said that the police were on their trail.
